About Interfaith Services
Reverend Dr Stephanie Dowrick has been leading spiritually inclusive services at Pitt Street Uniting Church since 2006. Perhaps the greatest gift of our services is that we can come together without labels, united in our common humanity and with a shared desire to live more lovingly and with greater appreciation and acceptance of one another.
Music, prayer, reflections, readings and teachings are offered. Our services emphasise a direct experience of the sacred, drawing from the mystical teachings, honouring our shared spiritual inheritance and creating a universal context in which all seekers can effortlessly belong.
The services are held on the 3rd Sunday of the month, at 3pm (until 4.15pm). Please arrive a little earlier if possible. Tea, coffee, friendship follow. Everyone is truly welcome.
Weekly meditations, currently offered by a small team led by Reverend Brookes McTavish, are offered on Wednesdays at 6-6-45pm.
Rev Dr Stephanie Dowrick
Stephanie Dowrick is widely known as a best-selling writer on spiritual, psychological and ethical issues. Her books include Seeking the Sacred, In the Company of Rilke, Everyday Kindness and The Universal Heart. She leads retreats in Australia and NZ, is a frequent guest on ABC Radio, and is active in international interfaith circles. She has been committed to an inclusive spiritual vision for many years and in June 2005 graduated from the New Seminary, New York, and was ordained as an Interfaith Minister in the Cathedral of St John the Divine in New York.

Pitt Street Uniting Church
Pitt Street Uniting Church is privileged to join with Reverend Dr Stephanie Dowrick and experience her insights for an interfaith journey. Pitt Street stands within a 175 year tradition of pioneering faith and action, offering a theologically progressive Christian perspective that values the enrichment of our own journey in company with all who relate to a genuine sense of the sacred dimension of life, however their journey is named. The interfaith congregation has come to see Pitt Street Uniting Church as an unconditionally welcoming "home", some also joining the weekly Sunday services and many participating in the Christmas Eve service led by Ian Pearson with Stephanie Dowrick.
Musicians
The quality of the music offered at the Interfaith services is exceptional and adds greatly to the beauty of the services. More or less on alternate months we have music from Dr Kim Cunio and Heather Lee, who are world-class practitioners of sacred music, and from Elizabeth Lecoanet who has recently returned to Australia after some years of study in France and the United States. From 2012 we are offering the chance for people to sing together for an hour (1.15-2.15pm) before the monthly services, deepening their experience of prayer through music.
